
Toby Tobias has over twenty years experience in the film business; beginning in 1984 when he worked as a young actor on stage and screen for four years in many productions from BBC series, feature films and commercials. His last acting job was a six month run in Alan Bennett’s “Forty Years On” at the Queen’s Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue.
In 1988 Toby trained as a Camera Assistant and quickly became a successful freelancer working on over 500 music videos and commercials in a wide variety of roles from video co-ordinator, vision mixer, cameraman, Asst. Director, editor. In February 2000 he was 1st Assistant Director of the feature film “Mumbo Jumbo”, an independent British/German co-production with a £1.4m budget.
Since 2000, Toby has focused on Writing and Directing, originally through his own Company, Inkling Films, where he was also the Producer of a number of projects including a 60 minute live concert of “The Divine Comedy” shot at the Shepherds Bush Empire on 9 cameras. He has since shot dozens of Music Videos, Commercials, and TV documentaries.
Toby has written several feature film scripts – some speculative, some commissioned. To date there are three projects currently in the later stages of development with different production companies, including Subterranea at Headgear Films Ltd.
